Art Through the Ages

This week, we were set the task of researching six art movements, highlighting two key artists within each movement. The movements I’ll be discussing in today’s post are Futurism, Dada, Feminist Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and Land/Earth Art.  Futurism Futurism was an Italian art movement founded in Milan in 1909 by the Italian poet Fillippo Tommaso Maarinette when he published a Manifesto of futurism on the front page of a Paris newspaper. Fillippo Tommaso Maarinette "Manifeste du Futurisme" 1909   The futurist movement was  most influential between 1909 and 1914 . It aimed to capture the energy of the modern world and  liberate Italy from the weight of its oppressive past.  Futurist painting  emphasized speed, youth, violence and the industrial city. Influences and Inspirations

    In this week’s post, I’ll be talking about our tutor, John Fitzpatrick. We’ll be exploring his work and the artists who have inspired and influenced it.   John is an artist and teacher from Glasgow. He works primary with etching and print and explores the relationship between image and object. John is a member, tutor and exhibitor at the Glasgow Print Studio, and currently being considered to join the board.   The first piece we’re going to look at is titled ‘A sequence of Events’. This is a series of prints produced through etching, exhibited at the Glasgow Print Studio in 2018.   This work was made in response to a period of exploration as John revisited the artists who had originally inspired him. An Introduction

The first week of the course has been exciting and terrifying all at once.     I have to admit, having the opportunity to work from home this year has helped put my mind at ease when returning to higher education to complete my HNC. I know that working and learning from home comes with its own challenges, but in terms of my artistic process I feel at ease in my own space and know that the work I produce throughout the year will be reflective of this.   I have been out of education for almost 7 years so the prospect of returning to study was incredibly daunting. I have some concern about managing the workload of full-time study while balancing my personal life, however I am a reasonably organised person and I know that with hard work and determination I will be able to stay on top of it.    Throughout my 10+ years in the workforce, I have gained an understanding of the personal value I place in having a creative professional life and finding a career that allows ...
